A Weaver’s First Post
May 17, 2008
Well, this is my first attempt at posting a blog.
I’m a weaver, who decided to join WordPress in order to learn the technology so that I can create a web site for myself as well as one for my husband (a painter). Down the road. Neither one of us is particularly technology oriented, other than email and net surfing. But I decided that it was time to break my dependency on my webmaster and learn how to do it all by myself. I keep thinking that if all these people know how to design web sites, I should be able to learn too. It just takes focus, as do most things one wants to accomplish in life.
The first real problem that I ran into was, why doesn’t my “Home” page show up when I click on “Visit Site?” Instead I am told that there is “nothing there.” After 2 days of working on my ”Home” page and “About Me” page. Then I realized that the first page, which I thought would be my ”Home” page, is actually supposed to be a post, not a page. So here it is, it shows up, it’s not about weaving, but in the future, my posts will be more fiber-related.
Then I had an epiphany. Wow. This is a great way to communicate with other weavers and fiber artists! Smart girl. So now I am even more excited about the extra benefits of learning WordPress, posts, pages and all that other good stuff.
However, in keeping with my theme, I have inserted a photo of one of my rebozos. What’s a rebozo? Spanish for shawl. You can read more about my handwoven rebozos on my “About Me” or “Home” pages, not posts.
By the way, the rebozo pictured above was a commission for the holidays. It has a black warp of 9 different fibers — all rayon and cotton, fat, skinny, slubby, smooth, shiney and matt. The weft is gold and silver tencel, alternating, by using two shuttles, woven on an 8-harness jack floor loom.
Hasta pronto.
